Shannon's Way
Robert trains to be a doctor at the fictional Levenford Infirmary (Levenford is loosely based on Glasgow), and falls in love with Jean Law, a young medical student belonging to the Plymouth Brethren who rejects him when she discovers that he has deceived her about his history and religion (he is a Roman Catholic). He develops an interest in a disease contracted from infected cows' milk, and devotes his spare time to researching it: it turns out to be brucellosis. Dr. Shannon contracts a nervous breakdown when he completes the project only to find that someone else has anticipated his results, and is nursed by and marries Jean.

Попробую разъяснить-

Present perfect- Используеться,когда говориться о продолжительном действии в настоящем,результат которого мы ощущаем в данный момент.
Например
I have just finished my homework-Я только что закончила мою домашнюю работу,т.е Я как идиотка парилась над ней 3 ЧАСА а от радости прыгаю ИМЕННО СЕЙЧАС.
или же
The plain has yet arrived-Самолет только что прибыл. Летел он из Камбоджи 10 часов,а в Шереметьево ТОЛЬКО ЧТо приземлился.

Для образования этого времени исп. сущ + Have/Has+ глагол в 3 форме или с окончанием ED

Past perfect- для образования исп. сущ+ HAD + глагол в 3 форме или с окончанием ED

Это время используеться,если мы в своей речи хотим показать ,что какое то действие произошло ДО какого то момента В ПРОШЛОМ..

НАПРИМЕР
yesterday,when I CAME(Simple past) home late at night,I noticed, that I HAD LEFT(Past perfect) my umbrella at the office. - Вчера,когда я поздно вечером пришла домой,а заметила,что оставила зонтик в офисе . Т.Е .этот гребаный зонт я оставила в офисе вчера и после этого двинулась домой. Но когда дома на след. утро обнаружила что зонтика нет,я начала вспоминать последовательность действий,поэтому говорить о факте ЗАБЫВАНИЯ ЗОНТА В ОФИСЕ нужно в Past perfect т.к. это действие было ДО того как я венулась домой. Надеюсь понятно...

еще пример-
Yesterday at 6 p.m. there WAS (Simple Past) a carcrash because the stupid driver HAD FORGOTTEN his glasses at home.Вчера в 6 вечера произошла авария потому что тупой водитель забыл очки дома. оесть СНАЧАЛА ему пришлось оставить очки дома и из за этого он разбился.
Короче что то произошло в прошлом,но ДО ЭТОГО было еще какое то событие ,для которого и употребляеться время PAST PERFECT

past continous для образования исп. сущ+ WAS/WERE +глагол с окончанием ING
тут все намного проще,время используеться для КОНКРЕТНОГО ДЕЙСТВИЯ в ПРОШЛОМ когда нам известно время .

Например

Yesterday at 1.p.m a was sitting at the lecture. -Вчера в ЧАС ДНЯ Я СИДЕЛА на лекции. Т.Е ты хочешь показать что именно в час ты была там а не курила в туалете или еще что то.
